Do you remember
a time when the world was a gentler place, when pleasures were
simpler, and a really good time did not have to be experienced
in short bytes with accompanying cacophony?
Noted for elegant phrasing
and an intelligent, forthright presentation of classic and original
tales, Laura J. Bobrow gently awakens the imagination
of her audiences with her humor and profundity. Well known and
never-before-heard stories are interspersed with bits of verse,
all cobbled together from a repertoire of more than 500 stories,
poems and anecdotes to make each performance memorable.
Laura is a prize-winning
poet, once dubbed "the American Milne" by Louis Untermeyer. She
is a songwriter/lyricist member of ASCAP, a member of the National
League of American Pen Women, the Society of Children's Book Writers
and Illustrators, and the Poetry Society of Virginia.
Her work has been recognized
by cultural organizations such as the New York Philharmonic Orchestra
and the New York City Opera, who have included her performances
in their fund-raising auction catalogues.
She is a raconteur and
bard, low key and charismatic with an abundant wealth of knowledge
and a dry wit. In addition to her well-acclaimed storytelling
performances, Laura has been active in the storytelling world
as the originator of storytelling series and festivals. Laura
introduced storytelling to the prestigious International Platform
Association in 1993 and served on its Board of Directors for many
years. Most recently she was the founder of LAUGHS, Loudoun's
Annual Unforgettable Gigantic Hilarious Storyfest! held annually
in Sterling VA. In May 2002 Laura was named Artist of the
Month by the Loudoun (VA) Arts Council.
